In 1983, Ray and Ron Melani began operating in Hampton Roads as
“Two Guys and a Truck” — literally. Working out of their pickup truck, Ray and
Ron began pounding the pavement to break open the Hampton Roads market with a
new and different philosophy in home improvements — totally satisfy the
customer.
“We talked to our customers in depth about more than just what
they wanted for their house,” says Ray Melani. “We asked them how they wanted to
feel about their investment, what kind of service they wanted. And we built upon
that. I guess it worked.”
And work it did — by 1996, after 13 years of hard work, Ray and
Ron had become the largest sunroom dealer in the Temo Sunrooms dealer network,
which has over 200 dealers nationwide. By 1997, they had become the largest
dealer of sunrooms in the United States.
“There are hundreds, thousands of home improvement companies
that do sunrooms, but only one Melani Bros. — a company with a tremendous amount
of experience with sunrooms,” adds Ron Melani. “We've installed more sunrooms
than any contractor in the country.”
In 1998 Ray and Ron opened their new showroom, located at 2025
George Washington Memorial Highway in Yorktown, VA, complete with warehouse and
corporate offices. And they continue to grow with an outstanding line of
windows, entry doors and siding. Serving all of
Hampton Roads and Richmond, Melani Bros. looks to continue to focus on their
regional market.
“We’re meeting the needs of the customer, in service, sales,
finance and production”, states Ray. “We’re the only company in this market that
provides all the services a customer may need under one roof.
Since the beginning, Ray and Ron have worked on that process.
Melani Bros. has a complete department for each part of the process. Customers
work with Melani Bros. from first contact to last, never with a subcontractor.
Ron is the architect of the production system while Ray
focuses on Sales and Marketing. “We knew the customer was frustrated with the
typical companies that constantly hire sub-contractors,” Ray says.
“Our customers didn’t want to manage the project they
wanted a full
service dealer. And that’s what we provide. We custom design the room, acquire
all the permits, level the ground, pour foundations, build decks — whatever is
needed to ensure that customers gets the best value for their money. We do it from
A to Z. That way, there's one person for the customer to deal with, one place
for each step of the process, one source for any issue they might have. Customers never have to handle anything — they just pick up the phone, call the
office, and a Melani Bros. employee is providing them with everything they
need.”
